9 Reasons Why 'Trainers' Are Not As Successful As They Should Be?

By Azeeza Jalaludeen (Co-founder of SHINE-Ada)

Corporate Trainer
Only trainer's could enjoy this joke ;)
You tell me, do most 'trainers' look at their career as an unlimited possibility or just an avenue to earn a livelihood? Do they truly see an ocean of abundance that can be achieved through collaboration and team work?

What are the challenges that most 'trainers' face?

Though most fail to accept and even fear (subconsciously) to become 'bigger' and more powerful than they are, the time has come to face some facts and find a solution.

All who go into people training as a career have Invaluable amazing knowledge and experiences, yet...

  • They lack the self-confidence and know-how on how to position themselves, to be 'seen' as professional-trainers who command international-standard-fees. This is also evident in their inability to 'declare' themselves as 'professional' trainers. Also Google the term - trainer - to see other possible definitions.

  • They spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to create their brand and learn ‘techniques’ to training and yet not succeed;

  • They are unable to identify their passion and area of speciality that can spin off their career to a new level of niche and distinction. So they remain 'general-trainers'. "I do all kinds of training" is the normal reply for many, and surprisingly, they seem to be proud of it.

  • 4 They fail to define their financial self-worth that match their knowledge and experience and choose to live below their true financial value. This is leading to price-war and under-cutting of true worth, to the benefit of customers, who have the budget.

  • Some lack business ethics of the industry, copying/plagiarizing is one of the biggest self-sabotage anyone can do to themselves. As they 'copy' and make other's work their own, there is another person ready to do the same to them. Universal Law of Cause and Effect deteriorates their game - sooner or later.

  • They lack the mindset to be big and explore the real possibilities, as they have not realised the real value of the IPST Industry. This also includes stopping their own capabilities/growth, once they see some 'good' money.

  • 7 Their branding work end up with them 'being' the product and be 'in' the training business for a long time, instead of creating programs/modules that can replicated by others, creating leveraged income and create teams and becoming the legacy of the work.

  • 8 They lack the right professional marketing to promote them effectively.

  • 9 Their careers get stifled while 'trying' to build their businesses instead of actually doing it. They join mediocre 'associations' with mediocre fee, hoping to be 'affiliated' with the professionals, however, that only creates mediocrity in their life. The standard of trainings still remain low, not reaching the international mark, thus not able to command high fees.
These are the real stumbling blocks to be a successful professional trainer.

There's so much that can be and needs to be done for development of this under-developed industry in Asia/World. There is a 'huge' vacuum here. Everyone can play it big and win, with the right know-hows and experience, this is also one of the least expensive business to venture it.

The truth is also that no-one has stepped up till now to address these issues in a true big scale, supporting these aspiring trainers, who're willing to share and grow. Most platforms/association for trainers are mediocre and do not meet international standards, as they lack the know-hows. These come with hidden agenda around power and control - to make it their game that these trainers have to play in, depriving of authenticity and individual growth of trainers and their business.

We, at SHINE (Self Help International Network Enterprise) play it differently, we are passionately offering WIN/WIN solutions for trainers and aspiring ones in Singapore, Malaysia, China, USA and globally, including India.

Next month one of such event is happening in India on 29th and 30th of August at Chennai. It's name is International Certification in Speaking Professionalism (ICSP).

Those who want to explore this trillion dollar International Professional Speaking and Training (IPST) industry are welcomed to join us.
